ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER
Emmeline Cosnett is a senior ecologist and botanist from Killeshandra in County Cavan, who has been working with APEM Group Woodrow in Sligo for the past 4 years. She has a background in pollination ecology with independent published research on Irish bumblebee behaviour and experience working as part of the Stanley Ecology Lab on the Leitrim RBAPs scheme as well as helping to create a digital pollen library of the Burren.
Emmeline is particularly interested in science education and community engagement work. She is experienced in leading biodiversity and sustainability workshops and educational science events across Ireland as well as providing a broad range of reporting requirements for clients. Emmeline studied in NUI Galway before moving to Edinburgh to complete her MSc. She is an artist in her spare time, working in oils and there is usually a bumblebee somewhere to spot in her work!
ABOUT FRIENDS OF CASTLE LAKE
Friends of Castle Lake is a group of concerned patrons of Castle Lake in Bailieborough, County Cavan. They want everyone to enjoy nature’s splendour, and to protect, preserve and be aware of all living things at Castle Lake. All our futures depend on it.

THEME
A guided looped walk around the lake to explore the wonderful world of bugs and botany found at Castle Lake, with a focus on woodlands, pollinators and taking the time to notice the biodiversity we have around us.
Along the way, we will chat about “Irish rainforests”, plant-pollinator evolution and the wood wide web!
The walk will take a relaxed pace lasting approximately 1-1.5 hours, with anyone free to join us for a short time or for the whole loop. This is a family friendly event and, if the weather is rainy, the woodlands will be a nice sheltered spot.
This event is part of National Heritage Week 2025.
